TIGERS’ STAR QUARTERBACK WILL RETURN FOR SENIOR SEASON, FOREGO 2013 NFL DRAFT
Clemson University quarterback Tajh Boyd – who had the game of his career in last month’s Chick-fil-A bowl win over No. 8 LSU – will return to Tigertown for his senior season.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound rising senior thought about entering the 2013 NFL draft – and would have likely been among the top five or six quarterbacks selected had he decided to jump to the next level. As it stands, he will enter the 2013 season as one of two legitimate Heisman Trophy candidates playing at South Carolina schools (the other being 2012 National Player of the Year Jadeveon Clowney of the University of South Carolina).
Boyd has thrown for 8,053 yards and 73 touchdowns at Clemson – where he has started at quarterback for the last two seasons under offensive coordinator Chad Morris. Boyd has also rushed for 765 yards and another sixteen touchdowns.

This website has been critical of Boyd’s gaudy numbers in the past – arguing that he put them up against inferior Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents. In fact Boyd has been held completely in check all three times he’s faced off against the stringent University of South Carolina defense.
Of course Boyd’s gritty, clutch performance against LSU made us eat some of our words.
“Against a national championship caliber team, Boyd turned in the best – and gutsiest performance of his career,” we wrote. “And while there are plenty of question marks surrounding the ability of the ACC to compete against other conferences (particularly the powerful SEC), Clemson emphatically answered its critics by knocking off one of the SEC’s elite programs.”
The only thing Boyd has left to prove at the college level? That he can beat the Gamecocks …
Boyd will begin his Heisman Trophy campaign on August 31, 2013 at Death Valley in Clemson, S.C. – going up against the University of Georgia and its own Heisman Trophy candidate, quarterback Aaron Murray.

But why would Boyd staying hurt him? As a Georgia fan it seems Clemson hasnt beaten USC with him, more than likely they wont next year either. If you read the posts going on the WIS page it seems Carolina fans are happier than Clemson fans about this.
He’s 0-3 in games played against USC. 0-2 as a starter.
Boyd is an excellent college QB and perhaps the best to ever play at Clemson. But he’s still never beaten USC.
My only real disappointment is that Clowney won’t get a chance to smash Chad Kelly a few times.

Not to take anything away from Clemson’s win, but LSU’s DBs are relatively slower compared to many others in the SEC. They are known for being big and physical, but not necessarily for being fast.

Per the CBS Sports NFL draft site, the 35th and 95th players (means at any position) that will be taken are DBs from LSU. I guess they are slow.
I never said they were slow, just *relatively* slower. Please read again, this time slower. Also, most teams play five DBs against passing teams. So 2 of 5 are pro prospects. Maybe the problem was with the other 2 or 3.
Regardless, our DBs were quicker, faster, or whatever. Either that or they just had better coverage skills because the receivers that were open against LSU were not so open against USC.
Or they might have been open, but with Clowney chasing him down he had a little more to think about.
We had several coverage sacks in that game. And we picked off Tajh three times, one of which was erased on a BS pass interference call.
