FIRST DISTRICT CANDIDATE HIRES FORMER GOVERNOR’S MEDIA PRO

It remains to be seen whether Teddy Turner’s bid for the South Carolina first congressional district evolves into a credible candidacy, but early indications are that the 49-year-old son of billionaire media mogul Ted Turner is taking his bid seriously.

Turner kicked off the new year by announcing the hiring of veteran South Carolina political consultant Chris Drummond as a “senior campaign advisor.”

Chris Drummond

Drummond’s hiring is notable not only for his abilities (he’s one of the best media minds in the state), but also because Palmetto politicos generally assumed he would be working for his old boss former S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford (who is also seeking the first congressional seat).

The fact that he isn’t speaks volumes …

A former television news director in Charleston, S.C., Drummond was Sanford’s communications director from 2002-05 – guiding the governor to stratospheric approval ratings during his first term.  Since then he’s carved out a nice niche for himself in the Palmetto political consulting universe – earning a reputation as a capable political advisor as well as one of the state’s go-to media relations pros.  That combination – along with his firm’s geographic presence in the first district – has made him a sought-after commodity in the crowded Republican primary for U.S. Rep. Tim Scott’s seat.

“Chris has been courted by several other likely participants in the upcoming Republican primary,” Turner advisor Michael Smith told FITS.

In addition to Turner and Sanford (who represented the first district from 1995-2001), State Senator Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley), S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston), S.C. Rep. Jimmy Merrill (RINO-Daniel Island), S.C. Rep. Peter McCoy (R-Charleston), S.C. Rep. Andy Patrick (RINO-Beaufort), former S.C. Senator John Kuhn, local attorney Curtis Bostic are all eyeing this seat.

Obviously one hire doesn’t make or break a campaign, but Drummond is a proven talent – not to mention a guy who knows where all of Sanford’s bodies are buried.

I always felt like Drummond grew weary of Sanford early on…

It’s like he knew what an A-Hole and FAKE Sanford was from the start…

We can vote for that young man because he doesn’t seem to be . . . well . . . excuse our french . . . he doesn’t seem to be an asshole.

We’ve checked with the neighbors — including Thorny — and here’s our quickie assessment of the others:

State Senator Larry Grooms (R-Berkeley)
stupid, bumpkin-like, likes to dress up in confederate uniforms, like McConnell, perhaps swishy if you know what I mean

S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse (RINO-Charleston)
dishonest, spends most time goofing off working for his father’s realty company, hunting & fishing, friend of Pierre Manigault, numerous conflicts of interest / self-dealing

S.C. Rep. Jimmy Merrill (RINO-Daniel Island)
Geechee Communications Company owner, earns his livelihood as a lobbyist-in-disguise working for his clients. Poster child for corruption in the S.C. legislature.

S.C. Rep. Peter McCoy (R-Charleston)
Don’t know him.

S.C. Rep. Andy Patrick (RINO-Beaufort)
Don’t know him.

former S.C. Senator John Kuhn
trust fund baby, disliked by fellow senators during his one term, got no legislation passed, narcissist, out-of-touch with ordinary people

local attorney Curtis Bostic
Good guy.

Drummond and Turner will make a formidable team. I know Turner a bit and he is likeable and teaches economics…and damned if DC doesn’t need some schooling on that!

Fun Turner fact:

His Daddy is the 2nd largest private land owner in the United States.

I’ll bet he could hire the entire slate of “consultants” that have any recognition and/or ability in SC just for fun, think about all the potential pols grabbing for power in this district that would be pissed off and fumbling around unaided.

I question Drummond’s personal judgment – on what planet is that fuzzy dirty looking goatee stubble acceptable? What the hell man….shave that mess or grow it out, THEN take the photo. You just look weird.

Ain’t it amazing when a man can’t figure out that when his stubble makes him look like his grand-pappy and/or that homeless guy under the overpass rather than Sonnie Crockett, he needs to be clean shaven or grow a full beard?

If I were in Turner’s district I would vote for him. He reminds me of the little fucker in the movie, A Christmas Story. Ralphie, the one who beats the shit out of Farkus.

Come to think of it Teddy would improve his chances of election if he changed his name to Farkus.

Vote for Teddy/Vote for Farkus/Vote for Teddy/Vote for Farkus

Teddy conjures up an image of some horny Milf humping her Teddy bear.

Whereas Farkus makes me want to bend over.

Yep, Farkus is a winner.

You talking about Drummond or Turner? I’m intrigued by Turner’s candidacy, but Drummond is a classic d-bag. Not well-liked, no obvious political skills. There are a lot of tatented consultants in this state – this doesn’t say a lot for Turner’s judgment.
