So private insurance companies and hospitals can reduce cost by negotiating with drug companies over what they will pay for drugs, but Medicare should not be allowed to do that, because it is bad for drug companies? Instead of having Medicare reduce its cost by negotiating with drug companies the way the Veterans Administration and private insurers do, Medicare should lower cost by punishing senior citizens who do not seek out the lowest cost alternatives for care.

Of course I am sure you can each see your 85 year old grandmother calling around to find the cheapest cardiologist or the lowest cost Alzheimer’s specialist.

This is obviously another Howard Rich company as they immediately go to the voucher option as the best choice. Nothing new here. Just more crazy stuff.

“There are very few true pricing signals available to seniors in Medicare today. Without those signals, Medicare will inevitably drag the rest of the economy over a fiscal cliff, no matter how many price controls Congress mandates for the program.”

Although it’s debatable what exactly will cause the day of reckoning, the issue of pricing signals (and attempted price controls) is very Rothbardesque. I wonder if the good doctor has been reading him as I don’t recall anything in the Chicago school discussing this.

The elimination of price signals is one reason why socialism can never work long term.(and why gov’t price controls are used short term by such govt’s)

Btw, +1 for the Tolkien reference:

“My political opinions lean more and more to Anarchy (philosophically understood, meaning the abolition of control not whiskered men with bombs) — or to ‘unconstitutional’ Monarchy. I would arrest anybody who uses the word State (in any sense other than the inaminate real of England and its inhabitants, a thing that has neither power, rights nor mind); and after a chance of recantation, execute them if they remained obstinate! If we could go back to personal names, it would do a lot of good.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so to refer to people … The most improper job of any many, even saints (who at any rate were at least unwilling to take it on), is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity …”

Doesn’t look like anyone is interested in what you are saying Paul because we are all pretty sick of having lies pushed down our throats and called candy.
