COLUMBIA, S.C. – Governor Nikki Haley today released the following statement regarding U.S. Senator Jim DeMint’s retirement and the process of filling the vacancy it creates:

“Appointing a new member of the U.S. Senate is a solemn duty, and I take this responsibility with utmost seriousness. I will make this decision in a manner that is thoughtful and dignified, but also quickly.

“I want to make two things clear from the outset. Number one, I will not take the appointment myself. Number two, I will appoint a person who has the same philosophy of government that Jim DeMint and I share.

“With all the challenges we face as a state and nation, it is essential that the next senator from South Carolina be dedicated to the principles that our state most values.”

I think that the principles our state most values and the principles Nikki Haley and Jim DeMint value are not one in the same. Nikki Haley and Jim DeMint seem to be out of step with what is important to the residents of this state as evidenced by your recent approval rating. Jim DeMint did not even vote for funding for the Charleston Port, one of the most important issues to the people of SC. As a matter of fact, I don’t think Jim DeMint ever submitted a bill as a member of the US Senate.

DeMint has Senate legislative credit for one bill: naming a Post Office in Greenville for Carrol Campbell.

Maybe Jim Etter would make a good Senator, Isn’t he leaving SCDOR in January? The timing is perfect. If not Jim, maybe Lillian McBryde would be willing to accept the post if Richland County Election Commission can carry on without her. Either Jim or Lillian replacing DeMint would be trading up.

Lance, perhaps you may find an opportunity to recant that opinion with today’s article in The State: ‘Lillian’ (as you refer to her) appears to have had documented previous knowledge of the anticipated shortfall of voting machines, basically validating her incompetence, probably her deep-rooted political connections, and liability. But, I guess to you, that’s “trading up”.

Try to follow this, EZ. It’s called “damning with faint praise”. It’s obvious that Jim and Lillian are major train wrecks, thus demonstrating that DeMint is even worse. DeMint is a hair-dyeing mental midget; any replacement would be trading up. You aren’t too smart either, are you?
