SITE SUPPORTING PRESUMPTIVE APPOINTMENT RAISES EYEBROWS IN WASHINGTON

A website promoting the U.S. Senate candidacy of Congressman Tim Scott is raising eyebrows in Washington, D.C. – and here in the Palmetto State.  The website – AppointTimScott.com – is registered privately.  It was also blasted out to thousands of South Carolina (and national) politicos earlier this week from an anonymous email, appointtimscott@gmail.com.

“Congressman Tim Scott is a staunch conservative that will continue Senator Jim DeMint’s efforts to further our cause,” the email states.

Scott is currently the odds-on favorite to be selected by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley  as DeMint’s replacement.  However some are speculating that Haley will nominate a “caretaker” to the position – someone who will agree to hold the seat for two years until South Carolina voters select someone to fill the remainder of DeMint’s term.

So who’s behind the “Appoint Scott” website? Several South Carolina political consultants pointed the finger at Walter Whetsell, one of Scott’s consultants.

“Absolutely not,” Whetsell told FITS.

Whetsell acknowledged that his firm is “part of (Scott’s) team,” but said that he had no idea who was behind the site.

Whoever created it, the site has some activists decrying the extent to which Scott may be tooting his own horn – and seeking to influence Haley’s decision.

“Unseemly,” one conservative activist in Washington told FITS.  “Very unbecoming of a man who wants to be a United States Senator.”

While Scott’s elevation to this Senate seat (after only one term in the S.C. House and one term in the U.S. House) is seen by many as a foregone conclusion, the truth is that he and Haley are not particularly close.  In fact Scott is a staunch ally of liberal S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell – a longtime Haley antagonist.

Nonetheless, sources tell FITS that Haley consultant Jon Lerner is aggressively pushing the governor to appoint Scott to the position – arguing that it is in the embattled executive’s best political interests.

Big T, did you know that Tim Scott went around when he was in his 30’s telling high school kids he was a virgin? No one FORCED him to talk about his private life.

But since he brought it up … is he still a virgin?

Actually, Scott has confirmed that he’s had sex outside of marriage since entering public service. And here’s something Sic should appreciate: He apparently has an appetite for tasty Indian cuisine.

Google “tim scott virgin zee patel” and have a look at that Bollywood-quality dish.

I’m glad he got laid and didn’t break the virgin record held by that rebounding machine A. C. Green.

Does anyone else find it amusing that South Carolina, one of the most anti-gay states in the country, might soon have two closeted homsexuals as its U.S. Senators?

I think it’s pretty amusing, for a variety of reasons. In other ways it is sad and disturbing, when it comes to the issues of using gov’t power on both sides of the issue.

I think there’s a pathology deeply ingrained in Graham over this issue and it drives him in bad ways, especially in foreign policy.

The sad thing is, the twisted coalition that constitutes the GOP shows how dysfunctional the whole mess is.

If you’re “limited gov’t” you should be championing the notion of no gov’t intereference on any level in your(or others) personal life…it’s completely “anti liberty” to allow otherwise.

The GOP should be embracing the notion of leaving homosexuals alone…but they have a whole portion of their electorate that refuses to do so on religious grounds.

That electorate trumps the “limited gov’t” philo in it’s use of gov’t power to make sexuality an issue in all sorts of areas.

Truth be told though, the Dems love this topic too(because they hammer the GOP’s hypocrisy on it) and as much as Republicans and are partially responsible for the oppression of homosexuals, the Dems are as well because of their constantly pushing on the issue(like pointing out our closeted gay pols) when it shouldn’t be pushed on.

Lots of hypocrisy to go around.

Is there any evidence that Scott or his associates are behind the website promoting Scott for the US Senate ……..? What the heck, let’s just pretend that there is and write a “news” article about it.

“In fact Scott is a staunch ally of liberal S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell – a longtime Haley antagonist”

Perfect Quid Pro Quo. She gains a new ally in Soctt. Harrell tamps down anyone under his thumb thinking of a primary challenge against Haley and then moblizes for her in the general election.

Yeah I am currently wearing a baseball cap made of tinfoil but I think I am on to something.

Tim Scott is J.C. Watts-light (on his feet, or “in the loafers” as Scuzpootlian said about Lindsey). In a related flash of brilliance, Richard Breibart would be a safe choice. He and Gash- for-Cash Haley share the same political philosophy.

I’d love to see Tim Scott come out and say he does not wnted the office Handed to him.

That way he Clearly distances himself from Barack Obama and the entitlement menality that power is owed to incompetent people, based on their race…

Scott can EARN his way…he does not have to have it given to him…

Here’s my take on it: Haley will appoint a “caretaker” to the office, thus averting having an incumbent running for the office in 2014. She wants to keep the position open. Why? Because she wants a national stage, and also because it might be very difficult for her to win the governorship again in 2014 when she will have to defeat a fellow Republican in the primary and also face strong Democratic opposition from Sheheen in November.
If she runs for the Senate, she will only have to win the primary and she will be home free since no Democrat will offer any serious opposition in the general election.

One national columnist has questioned how the Upstate would view a Senator Scott for reelection in two years. While he’s popular in his home district, Mt. Pleasant and Charleston have a reputation of being tolerate of his “kind” (Black and/or rumored gay)… but its hard to see the average Republican voter in areas west of 1-20 as getting too excited about voting for him. Scott would probably survive a state-wide primary, but he’ll come out really battered.

Obviously, this has to factor in whether Haley appoints him with the big question being who becomes the biggest drag on the Republican ticket in 2014: Nikki Haley with her dismal ratings, Light Loafer Lindsey, or Tim Scott. Once people decide to not pull the straight party lever because of any of the three, it becomes easier for one of the others to fall. Each of them could affect voter enthusiasm enough that there becomes an opening for a Democratic Senator or Gov if the Demos run the right candidates.

For this reason, look for Haley to tap Mulvanney or other pasty white face. Other names floated out there for various reasons include past GOP chair Karen Floyd and Jenny Sandfraud as doing less damage to the ticket overall.
