FRESHMAN CONGRESSMAN HIGH ON LIST OF POSSIBLE DEMINT SUCCESSORS
Four years ago, Tim Scott was a county councilman … a month from now, he could be a United States Senator.
The Charleston, S.C. Republican is reportedly high on S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s list of possible successors to U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint – who is resigning his seat to lead The Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C. think tank. In fact along with would-be “caretaker” Henry McMaster and Haley herself – Scott’s name is dominating the discussion.
Is that a good thing?
Not necessarily … Scott was elected on the strength of support from fiscal conservatives, but has repeatedly bent to the will of the GOP establishment in Washington, D.C. In fact his self-serving vote in support of a “Boeing bailout” proves he’s part of the problem in our nation’s capital … just as his recent endorsement of fiscally liberal S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell shows he’s part of the problem here at home.
DeMint’s legacy of liberty promotion and taxpayer protection in Washington, D.C. has been unrivaled in recent years. Haley needs to honor that legacy by appointing someone who will continue to advance it – not someone who will ask “how high” whenever establishment Republicans in Washington tell him its time to “jump.”

He is her biggest threat, but you don’t do THAT big of a favor for a sworn enemy.
The pressure on Haley to pick Scott will be strong from the national party. They need some diversity tokens and Michael Steele didn’t work out.
If Haley picks a caretaker, then she will probably run for Senate herself. She knows she can’t win Governor again, but if she spews enough boilerplate conservative talking points, she might sneak into the senate.

If she appointed Curtis she would get rid of the only person that could beat her in the primary. And Curtis is not the type to stay in Washington for long so he could stay 2 years or 8. Either way she is still young, there would be an open seat, and he would owe her.
For entertainment purposes, I’d be okay with Scott, Haley, Sanford, or anyone with a turban.
Anyone else is merely wasting my time by predending to be there for a legitimate reason while nevertheless wasting my time.

Given all the self-flagellation in the GOP since the election about their utter failure to win minority votes, I’d say Scott has a pretty good shot at this point- at least as a place-holder.
Ironic that it’s only Democrats who are spectulating about Tim and Lindsey’s sexual preferences and the Democrats are supposedly the Party of inclusion.

Hmm……lets think about that appointment for a second..!? Since there will be major voter blowback, this would be a very viable political play. Anyone who gets this appointment is sitting on political dynamite at the next election. Thomas is a wounded “blue” as much as Mark Sanford. Either of these two would be a great pick to not run in the next election cycle and offer a wide open primary field without any perceived lollipops.
T-Rav and Mark would be Nikki’s safe bets on both sides of the spectrum and give her free sway to spin to both sides. All the while, allowing her to keep at arms length.
