Fiscal Conservatives Press Nikki Haley On U.S. Senate Appointment

GOVERNOR URGED TO SELECT AN INTERIM SENATOR WHO WILL CARRY ON DEMINT’S LEGACY

Three of South Carolina’s strongest fiscal conservatives urged S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley to appoint an interim Senator who will carry on the pro-taxpayer legacy of Jim DeMint – who is resigning his seat in the U.S. Senate to become the leader of The Heritage Foundation.

“Senator DeMint has been a strong conservative voice, and he leaves big shoes to be filled,” U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney said. “I have faith Governor Haley will appoint someone with the character, leadership, and conservatism Senator DeMint has provided South Carolinians for the past eight years.”

Really?  Because from what we’ve seen of Haley over the last two years Mulvaney’s faith is probably misplaced.

Nonetheless, Mulvaney’s sentiment was echoed by Jeff Duncan – another U.S. Representative who has consistently voted with DeMint to protect individual liberties and taxpayer dollars.

“I’ll be praying for Gov. Haley to select a leader who believes in the principles that Jim has fought so hard to defend,” Duncan said.

S.C. Senator Tom Davis also indicated that he hoped Haley would not squander this opportunity.

“It is my hope that Gov. Nikki Haley swiftly appoints someone to serve in his stead who is just as committed to the liberty movement, and who is just as willing to stand for what is right as opposed to what is politically expedient,” Davis said.

We concur with all three of these fiscal conservative leaders – each of whom would be wonderful interim (or long-term) replacements for DeMint.  But will Haley appoint one of them?  Or follow their advice?  Don’t hold your breath …

I am starting a Draft Nikki petition. We need to push her to appoint herself. Think of all the good she could do as a Senator. South Carolina deserves Nikki. She is the only politician with the support of the people.

I support that petition drive. Let me know how I can help advance the cause of Governor Haley becoming the next U.S. Senator from South Carolina.

The real question is, what’s in it for her? Anyone got huge campaign donations or speaking gigs to offer? To the highest bidder!

Does this mean we’ll see Haley on the Celebrity Apprentice? Two Republican airheads in one room! Woo!

Smirks, I don’t think Haley will do “what is right” or “what is good for the citizens” but to do her calculus with her own career / bank account as part of the equation.

So I believe that “what’s in it for her” will be uppermost in her mind.

If you had to bet on five people she’d pick, who are those five?

VICTORY! VICTORY! VICTORY!.
Jim DeMint and and the Pee Party’s non-knowledge of the concepts & construction of the Constitution and their corruption of the conservative cause is the moral equivalent of the race-baiting of an earier era. It is time for Demint to join the dung pile with Coleman Blease and “Cotton Ed” Smith.

Don’t think for one second that a deal has not already been cut. Demint would not have resigned without first lining up his successor. Most likely, Trey Gowdy, who could hold the seat. Tim Scott is a good second choice. Frankly, any of the R’s in the house would be good, even Joe “You Lie” Wilson.

FITS is Urging for a moderate (fiscal conservative)…

We need a CONSERVATIVE-CONSERVATIVE…not a McCain-Graham-FITS Libertarian….

BigTwat, I have been reading your posts for several months and I have yet to discern your definition of liberal/conservative/libertarian. If McCain and Graham are Libertarian, then you must be a fascist.

I’m guessing you voted for Obama (or you’re a Paul-Bot)…and therefore pretty stupid…

So your inability to grasp the connections is not surprising.

I have not, Biggie. As I recall, another poster and I debunked YOUR assessment…but feel free to try again. Let’s use links and cite all sources…Go ahead, give it your best shot. I’ll be back from the bar around 10:30 to rumble. Let’s see how resourceful you are.

All three are hoping it is them. But my gut tells me we now know why Glenn McConnell did not find a way to side step being Lt. Governor. I think McConnell will make a good Governor. I think Haley will make a good Senator. Just two concerns: our state’s top two constitutional officers will not have been elected statewide; and Haley needs to consider the history of Donald Russell.

I’d prefer McConnell as the Senator….he certainly has the chops for it. It’s gonna be interesting who that dimwit of a Governor picks. Like everything else she does, she’ll milk it for all it’s worth.

From John Avlon’s poece at the Daily Beast

“The Tea Party’s most vocal proponent in the senate will take over the Heritage Foundation at a reported salary of $1 million per year, plus –as David Frum points out– a car and driver. This is a step toward fulfilling Eric Hoffer’s aphorism: “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” “

Maybe Governor Haley will appoint Will Folks for Senator. That way he will not publish his book exposing her.

However, I think the Senate has rules about wearing baseball caps thug style while in the Chambers.
