OH, THE IRONY
In a delicious bit of political irony, members of Mitt Romney’s failed presidential campaign are bitching and moaning about how quickly the Republican political establishment “flipped” on the defeated GOP candidate. Dan Senor, a top Romney 2012 advisor, went on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program this week where he said it was “stunning” how fast Romney supporters reached for their knives following his loss to Barack Obama on November 6.
First, Senor describes the mood at a Romney rally in Cincinnati, Ohio the Friday before the election – an event attended by numerous national “Republican” luminaries:
I’m backstage with some of them, I won’t mention their names, but they’re talking about Romney like he’s Reagan. ‘His debate performances were the best performances of any Republican nominee in presidential history. He’s iconic.’ They were talking about him because they believed he was going to win in four or five days. And in fact, some of them were already talking to our transition [team] to position themselves for a Romney Cabinet.
After the election? Many of these same “supporters” were ripping Romney:
I won’t say who they are. They know who they are. They were on television, it was unbelievable, it was five, six days later, absolutely eviscerating him.
The irony in all this?
If any candidate deserves to get “flip-flopped” on, it’s Romney. As we noted nearly six years ago, Romney has never met an ideological U-turn that he didn’t take – brakes squealing – in an effort to pick up political support. In fact the waning days of his 2012 bid marked yet another fundamental re-recalibration of Romney’s political positions.
The fact that notoriously fair weather “Republicans” are now flip-flopping against Romney? It’s beautiful … and every bit as much an indictment of their ideological bankruptcy as it is of Romney’s.
For the record, this website consistently opposed Romney in the 2008 GOP primary, the 2012 GOP primary and the 2012 general election. We enthusiastically endorsed U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s presidential bid in the GOP primary this go-round – and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson’s candidacy in the general election.

I’m sure the biggest flipper was the other “Indian GOP Govenor”
Good one! Ayyyyy!
What’s SAD is that FITS was as much a party to Electing Obama as any other moderalte or liberal…
Regardless of what Romney is: he is FAR fAR Better than the Anti-Amierican, Racist and Failure still in office…
And now our families suffer, while the Low-rent Hack Sell-outs like FITS Gets Fat and Nasyier by playing the Leftwing Idiots for the punks they are…
You did not flip-flop FITS…You SUCKED Obama before and you SUCK him Now…
You have hated America and you loathe yourself…
And the worst part, Good Americans have to Breathe the pollution that you and the Pop Culture is….
And we pay the bills for your failure, laziness and Hate…
“And the worst part, Good Americans have to Breathe the pollution that you and the Pop Culture is….”
You could do everyone a favor and just stop breathing.
‘You have hated America and you loathe yourself.”
Whoa, a little introspection there Big T.
In the end the GOP is following the golden rule, they are treating etch-a-sketch man the way he treated the electorate.
Why are you still alive?
What is your issue with pop culture? You mention it all the time.
I don’t like mayonnaise and Judge Judy, but you don’t hear me mention it all the time on a website I hate so much.
You have a truly unique personality.
Back at you!
You are still here? really after making a total asshole of yourself for over a year calling people names..telling them how stupid they are and how you guaranteed a Bachman, Perry, Gingrich, Cain and then a Romney victory..you told us how you would laugh at us and be proven right..the only thing you proved, which you have done over and over again is what a total clueless ignorant asshole you are. You are the reason Obama won..you and those like you. Those small minded racist fucks.. Thank you..you fucking idiot..thank you. America saw what those of your kind proposed and shot it down. Thanks again ignorant one.
I was watching the negro pardon the turkey today at the white house. It was so sad to see a beautiful white turkey sitting in front of a gang of porch negroes awaiting pardon. That should be illegal.
Whoops, my bad. Stark raving racists in here. Got bad news for you all. If you remain racist, might as well save some money for passports and plane tickets.
Uncle Remus – lol … better get use to that vision, buddy. Given the demographic changes in the country, you’ll be seeing much more of that in the years to come. I almost feel sorry for you confederates – your “traditional” America is no more. (smile)
Jack,
But I am a negro and do not are for it.
Uncle Remus
Well, let’s see …….. hmmmm ……. Romney’s biggest supporters in SC were Governor Haley and “Nate” Ballentine. As far as I know, neither has said a word about the Presidential election. They didn’t flip-flop, they just pretended that it never happened.
I guess the GOP voters in SC knew in January/February what the rest of the country knew in November ….. Romney just wasn’t electable.
These flip-floppers were chanting “Mitt, Mitt, Mitt” and now it’s “Shit, Shit, Shit”.
I just read that Nikki is hoping for a Presidential run in 2016. That’s laughable.
Natey was absent from the usual parade this year in his district, He was hoping for a Romney post, but now some say he is holding on to all is $$ so he can make a run for LT. Gov. That’s just where he would like to be, under Nikki AGAIN!!!
The ONLY person responsible for President Obama winning IS Mitt Romney…..The Republican Party fancies it’s self as a party of personal responsibility and accountability. But they constantly claim themsevles as “victims”. It’s alway’s someone else’s fault. Oh the media hates….oh the majority of the US population hate us….oh why can’t they just leave us alone…? Give me a fucking break! Figure it out! You too Big T!
Hey Mitt was just following the party line. Unfortunately, it never occurred to the Republicans that when you add together all the people they were trying to take the country back from, (poor people, minorities, gays, non-Christians (except Mormons), single women, professional women, unionized workers, and liberals) they make up more than 51% of the population.
Spot on, Jan.
That pretty much sums it all up Jan. Well said.
Hilarious article. Just a reminder this Thanksgiving holiday to be thankful that we avoided having these clowns in office for four years.
Mitt Romney lost because of a “depraved electorate willing to have such a man for president”, according to the editorial of a Czech newspaper.
So Drudge moved?
Unfortunately for Romney, Reagan was a better actor, much more believable for his audience, and had a much better sidekick than Ryan.
Oh, and no, by sidekick I’m not talking about George H.W. Bush, I was actually referring to Bonzo the chimpanzee.
would there even be a fitnews if big T didnt exist? i make the argument that the sole reason for fitnews existing at all is to bring Biig T into the consciousness of the world. you are a god, T. do yourself a favor and start a cult while you still have this energy going.
lol, he does have a lot of energy. Sometimes I get roped into commenting on his abject stupidity…but I always feel more stupid myself after having done so.
It amazes me how many fish he catches while troll baiting.
He’s a master and veteran troller, that’s for sure.
Also,FOR THE RECORD, This site predicted a Romney victory
Just,FOR THE RECORD,of course
Ray Charles could have seen that coming……
Idiots! All of them are idiots!
Remember the couple of weeks before the election when all of the Republicans (including FITS News) were saying that all of the polls showing President Obama ahead were fake and fixed and wrong and that Romney would win by a landslide . .
Republicans are idiots!
So sad to watch the pitiful negro president pardon the lily white turkey today at the white house. I almost feel like calling it the brown house until he leaves.
In all seriousness, Romney really wasn’t/isn’t the problem. Sure, he wasn’t my original guy and he was a notorious flip flopper. That said, America really needs to face its “OJ Simpson Jury” problem. In other words, the days of evidence or better candidates (yes, Romney would have been better for America) being discarded simply because of racial tribalism needs to end. In the end, our democracy will not be able to withstand racial block voting – whether from Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Whites, etc. – for very long…
it wastn racial tribalism as you suggest..it was that the far right ahd taken over a once noble party and scared and alienated a majority of the country against one of the weakest candidates in history..look within not without or face the same results..imho.
Uh, with a black presidential candidate for the Dems, the same results are guaranteed, the next time, the time after that, and, the time after that. Well, maybe….. For instance, if Hillary (or another white Dem) runs and wins the nomination for Dems in 2016, the whites within the party will get a dose of this racial tribalism when black turnout during the General Election is substantially reduced (loss of interest) to a point where the Repubs may have a chance to win. At that point, the Dems will either “get it” and embrace a perpetual black president formula or they’ll have an allout political party civil war. Because of their desire for power, I’ll guess the former.
Thanks, CAH for reinterating what’s wrong with the GOP. It’ll take more than a tanning bed to pull voters to that lily white bullshit.
Amen, Isotope. CoolAireHeights and his fellow right wingers are still clueless about the election. The fact is that blacks have been voting for white candidates over black candidates for years. At the presidential level alone, just ask Shirley Chisholm, Doug WIlder, Carol Mosely Braun, Al Sharpton, etc. And at the local level in South Carolina, just look at all the white elected officials in places like the Pee Dee who have been consistently elected for years in black-majority districts.
Instead of having sour grapes and decrying the potential for more black presidents in the future, you right wingers should nominate candidates – white, brown, red, or anything else – who can articulate conservative principles and still embrace the change happening in the country (not people who want to cry about the loss of some mythical “traditional” America). And perhaps most importantly, you should nominate someone brave enough to have a Sista Soulja moment with the neo-Confederate/Tea Party wing of your party. Good luck with finding someone like that….lol. That’s why Dems – whether its Hillary, Cuomo, or anyone else – will probably win presidential elections for at least a couple more election cycles.
John Blaze, I’m not crying about crap. I’m neither a Republican nor do I worry about the future of my family/friends… though, I do see a future where they’ll need to create and retain their prosperity in a much more self-sufficient and cleaver manner. That said, I’ll stand by my contention… blacks will not show up for a white Democrat presidential candidate in 2016 to the same degree they did for Obama. Why exactly do you think the Tea Partiers dominated in 2010 (just two short years ago!)? Right, no black figurehead to come out and vote for. When the Dem’s learn this – actually, they already know this and are terrified of the implications because of the loss of white liberal power – they’ll probably never be another white Dem presidential candidate again. A simple theory from me that will get verified in 2014 when the GOP does “surpisingly” well as again, they’ll be no black figurehead.
CoolAire – smh. I understand the idea of a black president – or future black presidents God forbid – troubles you. 2014, like 2010, is an off-year election, and normally in off-years, turnout is lower for most people – not just black people.
I’ll restate my earlier proposition – black people have been voting in droves for white candidates – even over black candidates – for a long time. I’ve seen it personally at the national and local levels. A prime, recent example of this is Bill Clinton. Blacks actively supported and came out for him, not only when he ran for president but when he was governor as well. And the guy wasn’t even the most liberal candidate in the world. By the end of his career, we were calling him the first black president….
Certainly, blacks were excited about voting for a black person for president – just as excited as Irish Catholics who voted for Kennedy years ago. But ultimately, black people are like any other group of people (white evangelical Christians, Hispanics, white women, etc.): we vote based on our interests. As a result, whether its Hillary, Cuomo, or anyone else, the 2016 Democratic nominee will get enthusiastic support from black people: both turnout and percentage. That’ll happen especially if the Republican nominee is some right-wing nut. Doubly so if the wingnut is some Southern, neo-Confederate Senator or Governor.
John Blaze, seriously, I really don’t care what color the president is. Good lord, he could be purple as far as I’m concerned. Also, I understand the enthusiasm of voting in one of your own… though, I’m not a fan of blindly doing this as it really is not that healthy for democracy, as it goes against the very concept of content and merit over skin color, you know, the things I thought we celebrated in America. For me, the real test for black folks will be if they continue to vote at 93% for their own, even when their own have been there and done that. (I mean, 93% is just a crazy racial block voting level.) Sadly, I suspect they will – after all, the pundits missed it on election day for this very reason as they incorrectly felt black enthusiasm would drop off with Obama’s weak economic performance – and as a result, we’ll just have a series of Obama-style presidents for several generations or so. And yeah, you’ll like that and I won’t… though, we’ll both ironically and honestly claim it’s for policy reasons. Oh well, such is the state of the country in 2012 and beyond… at least for a while anyway.
Sure, CoolAire – I’m sure you really don’t care what color this “figurehead” is or any other such “black figurehead[s]” in the future….
Overall, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on these things. One last point though. Ultimately, you watch too much Fox News. Most polls captured fairly accurately black enthusiasm for the president. I certainly saw it in my community throughout the cycle. Most prognosticators/pundits with common sense (e.g. Nate Silver) saw this as well. The only people who didn’t see it were Karl Rove, Dick Morris, and that crowd. From now on, you’d be better off if you watched less of that noise on Fox and on talk radio.
As an African American fortunate enough to have done well in this country, I’m not surprised or concerned about the 93% voting support among blacks for Obama (to be honest, that’s par for the course for the Democratic nominee – check Kerry, Gore, Clinton, Dukakis, etc.). And, no offense to you, but I certainly couldn’t care less if some Southern conservative sees that as a “crazy racial block voting level”. Ultimately, African Americans in this country have a unique history here and we see the world – especially as it comes to public policy – much differently than others. If you take that perspective PLUS the president’s record on health care, an improving economy, etc. PLUS the crap he had to deal with from wingers like Rove, Morris, and others, to be honest, I’m proud that African Americans came out to support the president in such a strong way. And whether it’s Hillary, Biden, Deval Patrick, Cuomo, or anyone else, I’m looking forward to supporting another Democratic nominee in the future just as strongly as we supported this president – especially if that nominee runs against some rightwinger.
Sure, CoolAire – I’m sure you really don’t care what color this “figurehead” is or any other such “black figurehead[s]” in the future…
… and your ultimate point?… yep, that I’m inherently racist for being forthright and honest in discussing the dangers of racial tribalism – which itself is the paradigm of racism if you ask me. (but regardless, your insinuations are so d@mn typial). After all, how much different is a 93% racial voting level – still sticking with the word crazy on this – from the overt racism and racial preferences that whites displayed during the Jim Crow era? Anyway, though I can’t stand many white liberals, I’ll give them one thing, that 40% of my race doesn’t vote like me makes me proud of my race’s democratic and true diversity principals. But, do you know what?… to be fair, when we are a far reduced minority, perhaps we may all vote alike in the interest of the “tribe”.. so I’ll not give too many shout-outs just yet since those will be sad days.
should be an d lost against one of the weakest..dam you wine at dinner..dam you to hell..
Since when has either US political party been “noble”?
They are and always were fucking hacks scrambling for power.
The GOP lost the White House because it only represents Big T clones.
Which one of his three mansions is he spending Thanksgiving at? My guess is LaJolla because it has the 18-car garage underneath.
Romney should kill himself. He lost to a negro from Kenya with no birth certificate and poor school grades who threw 23 million people out of work and singlehandedly ran up $16 trillion of debt all before killing ambassador Stevens.
And flies free on a huge government plane, pardons turkeys, and causes storms.
I think Donald Trump’s comb over just flipped and flopped.
I am not blaming Mitt but we really need someone to bring out the White vote. Too many porch negroes voting. If you receive welfare, you should not vote (welfare = medicaid, WIC, food stamps, housing assistance, ect.)
” If you receive welfare, you should not vote (welfare = medicaid, WIC, food stamps, housing assistance, ect.”
Yeah, like all those lazy whites below the poverty line in Red States? Another example how you dumb fuckers will never get it…
I agree with Uncle Remus. Too many on handouts voting.
Right on!!! More talk like that will get the Repubilicans back in the Whie House.
I can’t understand why they are so down on Mitt. He became the personification of all the Tea Party Right Wing Nuts and Republicans so he could please them. After becoming their embodiment, he lost – now all they can talk about is how fucked up he is. Politics sure is funny.
