YOU WON’T SEE THIS VIDEO IN OUR GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS
For those of you who don’t follow it, the Facebook page of S.C. Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) is always chock full of interesting articles, observations and discussions. In fact it’s one of our daily “must reads” on the internet.
This week Davis’ page features a video produced by the folks at the Competitive Enterprise Institute – a limited government think tank located in Washington, D.C. We don’t know much about this group but we can say that their “I, Pencil” video is one of the cleaner, more creative expressions of capitalism we’ve ever seen.
A modern adaptation of libertarian economist Leonard Read’s famous 1958 essay, the video highlights the interdependency of human enterprise as seen in the production of a pencil.
Take a look …
(Click to play)
“What you’re seeing is the market at work, the spontaneous configuration of creative human energies, of millions of people with their various skills and talents organizing voluntarily in response to human necessity and desire,” the video’s narrator states. “Every second we are alive, we benefit from the products of voluntary, spontaneous cooperation.”
That’s true …
In fact this “voluntary, spontaneous cooperation” produces elevated levels of opportunity and prosperity for people of all income levels … which in turn reduces costly dependency.
Obviously you won’t see videos like this played in our failing government schools … or promoted by our left-leaning mainstream media. Why not? Because their objective is to demonize capitalism, perpetuate class warfare and promote a false dichotomy between “Republicans” and Democrats who in reality only differ by degrees.
That’s too bad … because this is a message America needs to see (and comprehend) now more than ever.

Yes, folks………the old #2, reliable, always responsive, never complains, and cheap.
Reminds me of the story:
A guy walks into a bar and asks for something “tall, cold and cheap”. The bartender says: “I’ll see if my wife can over here.”
Sic Willie,
thanks for the warning. I will be sure and NOT read the carpetbagger’s facebook garbage.
the pencil analogy’s old news… but if you want to go back even further to where the same idea came from, refer to Hayek “On the Use of Knowledge in Society,” American Economic Review (1945). Some may even argue that Keynesian multiplier effects are the same thing (but they’re wrong, as usual!).
So how’s that fucking mythical Jasper port shit working out. And to think we threw Cat Cieps’ hot ass out of office for this crap.
Nice language!

Actually, Will, I think high school economics in fact covers principals of the free market pretty well. I could look up the state standards, I suppose. But whatever….I think this is the kind of stuff that gets taught.
Hey, I even remember when I was in high school our economics teacher showing us a series of videos featuring Milton Friedman.
So… the President makes Fits, and a number of GOPers, head explode when he makes a point that business owners didn’t create the roads, water and sewer systems, etc. that are needed to allow them to operate. But, it’s Ok for some think tank to make the same point, but with a pencil analogy.
The point is the same, nobody operates along in a bubble. If we do what’s best for the entire country, all benefit.
But, the same is not true if we focus on things that only benefit individuals and special interests!
“But, the same is not true if we focus on things that only benefit individuals and special interests!”
The country is made up of individuals and special interests….
Oh- roads, water, & sewage systems all existed prior to gov’t involvement. They would probably be more advanced than what we have now if remaining private, but I’m sure many here will debate that opinion.
Carry on.
This a a ripoff of Milton Friedman.
Are you saying they are showing this video in South Carolian’s worst in the nation private schools?
I, pencil and keyboard…….
….do solemnly contribute that Tom Davis is quiet as a mouse concerning the SCRA “Horizons” project that reeks of ground water contamination that the potential buyers will not be made aware of.

Considering the FuRMAN connection, one would see that a Sanford, Davis, and Folks “3 Blind Mice” routine would be in order! A large wager would be placed to say that an “out of State” firm would be a great way to skirt brotherly eyes and catch some sweet honey on the back porch. From the “Promenade Landfill” to the “Magnolia Paradise” and the “Horizons hiccup” developments one can see why Will always screams about the USC scam fiasco instead..!!@ We wonder why there are no developers from Orangeburg on the “Horizon” list..!?
So Tommy Davis…..how did you like all that “Sandy” wind Energy that you very well know that would have generated how much TAX Revenue for our state? We wonder just how many GE workers in Greenville will know enough to give Trey Gowdy a call and ask him if knows how much WIND ENERGY Mr. Tom Davis is sitting on ..!?!
Will, From all of the students that are suceeding and reaching incredible heights in our “failing public schools” FUCK YOU and tell Howard Rich to go to hell
yesah i worked you and Tammy Davis in the same piece. yesah we are still on for a gluten free weekend at the marsh house. yesah i will toss the salads all weekend. Okay sweet”s see u soon
