TIGER OFFENSE ROARS PAST N.C. STATE
Clemson University’s football team put on an offensive clinic against the N.C. State on Saturday – racking up 62 points and 754 yards of total offense as they avenged last year’s embarrassing loss to the Wolfpack.
Five hundred and twenty-nine of those yards (and eight touchdowns) came courtesy of junior quarterback Tajh Boyd – who broke school records in both categories. Boyd completed 30 of 44 passes for 426 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 103 yards on eighteen attempts – scoring three touchdowns on the ground.
Over his last four games – all lopsided Clemson wins – Boyd has thrown for 1,459 yards and 18 touchdowns. In the process, he’s entered the Heisman Trophy conversation – ranking No. 9 on the most recent ESPN list.
Astoundingly, Boyd – the ACC’s leading passer – wasn’t the best quarterback on the field at Death Valley on Saturday. N.C. State’s Mike Glennon completed 29 of 53 passes for 493 yards and matched Boyd with five scoring strikes. In fact N.C. State looked like it would run away with the game early on – racing to a 24-13 lead over Clemson in the second quarter. Of course that’s when the Tigers reeled off 42 unanswered points – turning a potential upset into another Clemson blowout.
Clemson (10-1, 7-1 ACC) missed out on a shot at the ACC Atlantic Division championship when Florida State defeated Maryland on Saturday, but the Tigers could still wind up with an at-large Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bid if they can defeat arch-rival South Carolina at home next week.
Head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers need a signature win against an elite SEC program given the weakness of the ACC schedule they play. While Boyd and the rest of the Clemson offense have put up gaudy numbers all season – they’ve done it against inferior competition.
A win over Steve Spurrier’s ninth-ranked Gamecocks in this year’s “Backyard Brawl” would not only silence the critics – it would end three years of frustration against their in-state rival.

I think FITS’ elation over this Clemson “WIN” (as he sees it) is VERY Indicative of his Football intelligence…
FITS usese the term “Embarrass”…you just mis-used it…again: Very Typical of this site in asessing college football in SC…
You are only half correct. “A win over Steve Spurrier’s ninth-ranked Gamecocks” will not silence the critics.
What will a Clemson loss do?….that is a more realistic way of thinking….
A Clemson loss will not silence the critics either. Haters is gonna gonna be hating, regardless.
Hush BigT. We know the three certian things in life are
1) Death
2) Taxes
3) The opposite of what you predict.
I wonder if you’ll still believe that when Obama and Dabo have completely REAMED Out you, and the rest of your Doltish followers…
PS: Carl: So you are predicting a Clemson win vs SC????
This was the signature win for the kitties right? Did any other team have such lofty national rankings as State? Maybe Duke?
I think State may be the only team in tha ACC, other than FSU, that should even be included in Divsion 1. and that’s being generous to the Pack…
That is a Weak Weak conference…hardly D-1 football…
read the paragraph again dumbass, slowly this time. it does not say the state victory was a signature win, it says they need a win against an “elite” sec program. i guess they mean usc but i would hardly call them elite
Jeffy boy,
you are correct. I had forgotten the “lofty national rankings” of Arkansas, Tenn, E. Carolina, UAB, Kentucky and Wofford.
“Head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers need a signature win against an elite SEC program given the weakness of the ACC schedule they play. While Boyd and the rest of the Clemson offense have put up gaudy numbers all season – they’ve done it against inferior competition.
A win over Steve Spurrier’s ninth-ranked Gamecocks in this year’s “Backyard Brawl” would not only silence the critics”
There’s some first class i-r-o-n-y in those two paragraphs.
Elite and USUC is a textbook example of oxymoron. And to use this year’s USC East schedule and wins as worthy of a #9 ranking that is deserved while ridiculing a 10-1 Tiger record is a textbook example of the pot calling the kettle black.
Wofford who? UAB who? Arkansas who? Vandy who? Kentucky what? Tennessee what?
Dead Coach and cnSTD Vandy is a bowl team, UT could be with a win saturday. yall have how many bowl teams on yor scedule?
He was talking about beating Georgia and playing LSU and Florida. What comparable teams has Clemson payed? What comparable teams has Clemson beaten?
The SEC “athletes” are coming to town to play the ACC “student athletes”. SC fans please pick up after yourselves this time. I know it’s hard to do but CU’s campus is beautiful.

For “this is what clemosn thinks of itself”
Sonny boy, at Clemson they teach young men not to piss on their hands while in the bathroom.
Apparently, they don’t even teach you coots not to wipe your ass with your fingers.
You can switch fingers now, Sonny boy.
At clemson the whole place is an out house.
I love the smell of cow manure in the morning. It smells like,…………Clemson.
I predict an embarassing loss for Spurrier and the cocks!
Me too!
good thing no one gives a sh*t what either of you think or predict.
Gosh, I’m so thankful Dabo decided to pass up on his last three opportunities to crush the Cocks. What a nice fellow.
you will give a shit Sunday morning when reality sets in. When your ass is embarassed on national TV by the “Cup Cake ACC Champions”.
When you drop from the top 15 in BCS rankings it will matter.
When CU is in the Sugar Bowl, it will matter!
On the bright side you will get some great Papa Johns coupons at your bowl game. Make us proud!
I would think that as much shit as Spurrier has talked that Dabo will NOT call off the dogs when its out of control in the 3rd. 70 is the Magic Number!
This is going to be ugly, ugly, ugly! Bet Spurrier is thinking today he should learn a little class and be humble and learn to STFU. It will suck being taken to the wood shed on national TV in prime time!
I really don’t think it matters what conference you belong to. I have always looked at football as modern day primitive warfare — sort of like when men fought each other in small bands or tribes. Even in the days of old there were unwritten rules you adhered to.
Sometimes a group of men rose to the occasion and defeated stronger enemies. Mongol non conference hordes defeated highly trained armies and occasionally a man, with just the jawbone of an ass defeated his much stronger opponents.
For more than a generation a small band of Seminoles in the Everglades of Florida held off the U.S. Army. Even Geronimo and Cochise couldn’t be defeated for awhile. The Apaches would ride their horses till they dropped and then would eat them and then ride double to their next engagement.
With proper coaching, motivation, and talent 11 men can beat whomever they want if they prepare properly — it doesn’t matter what conference you reside in. Clemson knows what it takes to win and perhaps Spurrier can convince his team that Clemson is a real opponent. Every team has a chink in their armor. Dabo just might know where to put the arrow.
I ain’t buying the ACC vs the SEC stats.
I been talking to Dabo and encouraging him to step on the gas, not tap on the brakes when the crapola hits the fan on Saturday.
One of the problems with his offense is maintaining rythym while leading or slowing the game down. Screw slowing the game down, boy, just mash that damn accelerator until the whistle blows.
Did they handout coupons at last years Orange Bowl? 70 percent off perhaps, hehehe!
Amazing, 70 is the magic number you say?
Son, just cause you got 70 put up on you don’t mean you can do the same to someone with … That thing alled a defense. Boy, I say again. I am not going to predict a win for USC because we have been inconsistent on offense this year. But I will predict that if Clemson loses, you have set yourselves up for such a big fall that you will all be unhinged.
Mr. OHNO, I was referring to the 70 points West Virginia scored in the Orange Bowl last year on the (ahem) ACC “champs”. NC State is a barely average team that put up 50 on Clem last Saturday. A win at home in a “shootout” with NC State(wheee!) wouldn’t seem to be such a confidence builder.
What an amazing joke. Did you catch the game?
I heard Chad Morris is all but gone. I bet Dabo may last one season w/o Morris propping Dabo up…
Venerables shows how smart Dabo is in selecting coaches. He got lucky that Morris, a HS OC, could run rough-shod over the ACC HS teams…
If Clemson cannot win this year…It may be a Decade before they win again…if then…
Big T, Of all people I did not expect you to be the first Cock to concede.
Morris is not going anwhere! Not until Clemson wins the NC. Then he will take over at Texas.
That will be about the time the old ball sack heads to “the beach”.
Make sure you record it. It’s gonna be ugly!
It sure was ugly last year.
you aint seen ugly! It’s gonna be ugly, ugly, ugly!
I’m sure you didn’t predict a Clemson victory any of the last three years either, and just have a “special” feeling this year. Bless your heart.

Thanks a ton for the info. I didn’t notice West Virginia on the list.
Love how the BCS has been meaningless all season long when Clemson was way below USC and on the outside looking in on the Top 11. But Amazing now posts it as if it proves something more this week.
BTW…….Lines are out from Vegas. Vegas says it’s going to be ugly! Clemson giving up FOUR points.
Really? I see only 1 y’all beat. What could than mean? GA is over ranked or y’all got lucky?
you enjoyed your time in the sun. you have a SEC east champ. to show for it.
you have spent 2 years trying to convince everone that USC was a perenniel football power……….in the end, USC is what it always will be……….A Classless loser and a even worse Winner!
I dont see any you beat jackass
ESPN is reporting that Dabo is sending trooper to guide the cocks buses on friday to Clemson……said he wantet to make damn sure Spurrier knows how to get to Death Valley!
ESPN is reporting that Carolina won yet again
The History channel is saying Clemson was a good team
cnydy…I do beleive that SC had a pretty big win this year….I do not beleive Bitter Kittties have had one. Simple point…not disputable.
jeffy boy, if you are satisfied with one “elite” win a year coupled with multiple “elite” losses, so be it.
CNSYD is correct. After this weekend’s win, USC will still be stuck with one “elite” win this season.
Well one elite win is one better than Clemson has. Nd Clemson has a string of ho hum wins by big scores over nobodies all season long.
It is a good rivalry and i enjoy a good game no matter if Spurrier was quoted that the Clemson/South Carolina a non-issue as far as he is concerned.
That being said, let’s not forget, these days, college football is no different than professional football – essentially they are all hired mercernaries (including my beloved Vols) except for maybe Furman. Even high school football leans towards that spectre.
Example: Byrnes HS here in the Upstate. Big time sponsers fronting uniforms, shoes, scoreboards, etc.
Only thing left that is pure in college & high school sports these days is baseball,track/field and women’s volleyball.
Everything else is pimped to the max and has left me a bit jaded.
You left out bowling. The bowling shirts are way cool. HS bowling never gets any recognition. We have it here in Columbia.
Well here we go again with all the trash talkin’ prior to the big one this Saturday. As much as we would like, no amount of verbal assaults from both sides makes the scoreboard light up for their respective team. It’s the effort and results by the players on the field that will do that.
I’m thankful that the Gamecocks have been on the winning side the last few years, and I think they are capable of winning Saturday, but so is Clemson. Just depends on who shows up–the team that ouplayed Georgia and played up to their potential, or the debacle that gave the game to Florida. As for Clemson, they haven’t really been tested–the only ranked team they played they lost to. Everyone else they played is mediocre at best. They have great offensive weapons, but so did Oregon before they played Stanford.
Whatever the outcome, it ought to be a good one!
Go Cocks! Fight! Win!
Dabo’s gonna be showing his GRUMPYFACE about 10:30 PM Saturday. And all the kittie seniors will be shedding tears.
The thing I come back to is Clemson’s response to “you haven’t seen a real D yet ” is USC hasn’t.’seen an O like Clemson’s.
maybe.
The spread is designed to take away the size advantage of bigger teams. But if a team is big AND fast, spread is not quite such a difference maker.
Also recall we heard the same line about your much better O the past two years.
Correct punctuation.
Try it sometime.
Will you be showing us your Clemson diploma?
They say games are won in the trenches…
If so, Clemson will get its @$$ kicked all night long…
Clemson is way below the talent level of SC, but because Clemson plays no one..they have no idea how far behind they are…
