Let me tell you the deal with this statement by the brilliant but self hating Graham:
He knows that a Romney loss is a precursor to the fight coming his way. He is already staking out his territory and game plan for his own battle. He knows he gets Dem votes and he is going to play the center all the way and characterize any fool that tries to knock him off his perch as a *right wing radical*.
Anyone with any measure of intelligence knows Romney is not *hard* anything, he is a jellyfish^s, jellyfish.
But Graham does not have to spin to intelligent people to win, he mearly has to lie to the stupid. He hates the hard right and the hard right hates him.
Regardless, Graham is a brilliant politician with major psychological issues buried deep within that reinforce his Neocon viewpoints. I actually think Baghar/9inch/Shlomo etc. once posted the best draw down on him I have ever seen some time ago.
I hate Graham, but the reality is that he is unbeatable.
Lindsay has done more for SC other than Strom Thurmond. He nearly always speaks the truth and strives to make SC the best he can. I commend him on his principled stands (unlike DeMitt). And guess what I’m a democrat.

He can speak rationally with his political opposition, wears a uniform, is an acknowledged ‘boots-on-the-ground’ authority on national defense matters, enjoys the respect & support of our military community, doesn’t pander to you right wing looney former draft dodgers & is about the only elected official from SC who hasn’t made us a laughing stock for late-night TV. If you still don’t think he’s on target, take another good look at last night’s election results.

supports the military and has served our nation – certainly noble on both fronts, and I commend him for his service – but hardly unique qualifiers in federal elected office these days.

I hate to say this, but nationally, he is right. Yes, there are deep pockets of hard core conservatism in the country. As a whole, the demographics have changed and we can’t just ignore this. It was and is our peril. I think this election bears that out. You can’t disrespect over half of the electorate and expect to win. You just can’t. It doesn’t mean changing core values, but being less strident.
The racism and veiled hatred has to end. That means no crazy talk. Put the crazies in the closet. Look at the Senate tonight. When you move to far to the right, you lose the country. Why do we alienate so many? We will never win that way…never.

I think what she is saying is that the election for the Republicans was not so much about Romney as it was about the party. The hard core Republicans did not particularly want Romney to win – they just wanted Obama to lose. Americans heard what all the Republican primary candidates had to say in their many debates. With each debate they went even further to the right. There the majority of the Republicans stayed even if Romney did shift toward the middle in the general election. I do think the presidential election was about the ideology of the Republican party vs. that of the Democratic party, and some of this also showed up in Senate and House races where the Tea Party backed candidates were rejected. Most of us want to see the two parties work together toward solutions – not deadlocked and with the far right representatives ready to go over the fiscal clift, taking us with them.

I think part of the problem is the perception (reality?) that the GOP only talks about fiscal restraint to the extent that it is abused by poor people and minorities, rather than across-the-board spending restraint (such as the GOP sacred cows corporate welfare and military-industrial spending).
Until Republicans stop letting the Democrats push them around with class warfare, they are going to have trouble, particularly in a down economy. I think Grahams point is that the party needs to be realistic and not expect many minorities and young folks to vote Republican until they ease up on the social conservatism and acknowledge that welfare programs aren’t the only reason we are in a fiscal mess.

Lindsay spoke the truth a couple of weeks ago when he said Repugnants weren’t making enough angry bubbas to win any more elections (other than this state where we have a long history of making bad choices).
The Tea Party and the rest of the right wing should just go form their own party. They were screwed by the moderate wing, and the tea Party in turn screwed the moderate wing. If they were smart, they would push nationwide for a blalnced budget amendment through the state house route. No… instead we’ll get more usleless attacks on women and abortion, and Latino’s and immagration. The clock is ticking and we will all pay for this distraction.
I don’t like losers that are unable to understand national politics. What plays well in South Carolina and gets people like Jim DeMint elected, doesn’t play well across America. While Senator Graham attempts to work across the aisle for a better America, Tea Party snipers like Tom Davis call him a traitor. Could he be planning to unseat a real American hero? Moderate Republican senators like Dick Luger are defeated by Tea Partiers in the primaries, only to lose to Democrats when all America votes. Single handedly, the Tea Party forced Mitt Romney so far to the right he became unelectable, even though America deserved and wanted a new leader. In the last two years the Tea Party caused senatorial defeats in enough states to prevent a Republican controlled senate.
Are Republicans ever going to give up on abortion? Wasn’t that settled in 1973 by the Supreme Court? We are not forced to abort our children like in China. What about AK47s, gays, immigrants, government employees, unions, teachers and people without jobs? Who is left to vote Republican? Seemingly, we just like AK47s. Until Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other enablers of the radical right become much more pragmatic, we will see more polarization and fewer successful Republican candidates for statewide and national office. On the other hand, if you are satisfied to control the House of Representatives, Republicans can continue with business as usual. If Republicans want to win national elections, they better change!

I suggest you listen closely to the right wing pundits and decide if you believe America will ever vote their selections in power. I am of the opinion they provide discord in the Republican ranks because that is what pays millions of dollars for their commentary. Extremists love to hear other radicals pontificate. Why do you suppose the Fox people, save O’Reilly, had the dems losing by up to seven percent? You may want to go back to 2008 and notice that Dick Morris did the same thing then. Americans aren’t stupid. Santorum and Gingrich forced Mitt to move farther to the right than he wanted, and it cost him the election. In order to win the nomination, the national election can’t be won. Now Morris is blaming the loss on Hurricane Sandy and Gov. Christy and disbelief the young, black and Hispanics would turn out at the polls. Hello! Give me a break. We lost because of the message, and the right wing formed the message, and helped Obama immensely when two senatorial candidates went viral with anti-abortion messages. If I were a few years younger, I would be attempting to form an American Party to eradicate the far left and the far right radicals. A college professor once joked, ” I’m so narrow minded my ears touch.” That was fifty years ago. Today’s right wingers truly are so narrow minded their ears touch. They just like to spout out rhetoric that causes rational people to leave the reservation and vote for democrats.
