ATTEMPTED CENSORSHIP … AND A STARTLING ADMISSION FROM THIS WEBSITE’S FOUNDING EDITOR

An effort by S.C. Senator Larry Martin (RINO-Pickens) to censor legitimate criticism of his liberal voting record has failed in the South Carolina Upstate – raising the temperature of an already heated State Senate race between the 30-year incumbent and his petition challenger, former S.C. Rep. Rex Rice.

Earlier this week consultants for Martin, a former Democrat, challenged the accuracy of an ad being run by Liber-TEA, the political group founded earlier this year by Will Folks (this website’s founding editor).  According to Martin’s consultants, the Liber-TEA ad falsely claimed that the liberal Senator had supported a shady pension fund deal on five separate occasions during his tenure in the S.C. Senate.

On the basis of this claim, Martin’s team demanded that the ad be pulled.

After Liber-TEA provided documentation in support of the claims (it turns out Martin supported the pension fund on at least eight occasions, not five), television stations concluded the ad was accurate and left it on the air.

In the heated back and forth that took place during the debate over the ad, however, Liber-TEA was threatened with the exposure of embarrassing details regarding the private life of its founder, specifically his stint in “heroin rehab.”

This threat prompted Will Folks (a.k.a. “Sic Willie”) to issue the following statement …

When I was eighteen years old I voluntarily entered a detoxification and rehabilitation facility in Wernersville, Pennsylvania to treat an addiction to various substances – including heroin.  Records of these facilities are confidential, but someone I trusted several years ago appears to have provided this information to my political enemies.  For better or worse – usually worse – it has been my practice to get ahead of stories like this, putting the truth out and then letting the chips fall where they may.  Obviously I regret the pain and embarrassment I caused my family during the misspent days of my rebellious youth, and I am eternally grateful to my family for getting me the help I needed to begin the process of overcoming my addiction.  I will always be an alcoholic and a drug addict, but I have been sober for six years and will continue to take my recovery one day at a time.

Wow …

South Carolina politics, people … it never gets boring does it?

Yep, it was the right thing to do. Anyone that’s had any kind of interesting life has skeletons in the closet. Don’t let the boring people jerk you around. Fuck them.

Now what do they “have” on you? Nothing. Report more truth on them as they clearly don’t like it.

Eh, I would have just told whoever to run with it – called their bluff. No one really cares what you did back then. You aren’t running for office. Besides, if there was something to be done about it, it still can be done. Anyway…should be a lesson to everyone (including the editor of this site) about casting around rumors (you do do that, you know that, right?)

On to the topic of 3rd party groups. All for them raising and spending money, but shouldn’t they too have to disclose? I’m for the removal of limits and the full-disclosure of dollars taken in and put out. That’s transparency.

What say you? Would it hurt your cause to reveal the sources of your contributions? Are the nefarious? Would those donors continue to give if their identity was not protected?

My money is on Haley as being the culprit. If it’s Wes or Joel they are major turds. Of course, Wes might have cause if Sic’s little anecdote about SC’s Redheaded Party monster having some dirt on Wes is true.

It could be tit for tat. Or in this case, tit for tit. :)

Good for you for putting it out there like this and sorry you had to endure this when you were young. I’m sure from walking with friends with addiction issues that it is a constant struggle. My hope is that going forward, you will think twice before throwing others undergoing similar battles under the bus in the midst of serious attempts at recovery. I’ve seen you do it more than once in the past. Few stories are worth throwing down stumbling blocks for folks fighting for sobriety.

Peace to you and have a restorative weekend in the upstate.

Nancy November 3, 2012 at 8:39 am

I agree Smirks not every one had to fight addiction and unless you have seen it or experienced if, we have no idea how difficult it is to get off. Particularly opiates! I am glad that Will was able to get clean, in SC today there are a lot of 18 year olds running around addicted that cannot afford to go to another state for treatment. The treatment centers in SC are inadequate, with about a 10% or less success rate. So what does SC do? Continues to build jails/prisons to house addicts when what they really need is treatment. Drug addiction does not discriminate, it isn’t the poor, the dumb, the rich, or any particular group that gets addicted. It often starts with an injury in which they are prescribed opiates with no weaning process. People quickly build a tolerance for opiates and move on to harder drugs until they end up shooting heroin. The options in SC for getting off these drugs are methadone or suboxone, both of which have terrible withdrawals and I have yet to see anyone who actually got clean under those programs. It is a maintenance program that allows them to function more normal. I have never been addicted to opiates, I am afraid of them, because I have seen how many lives it can destroy and the young are most susceptible to addiction. I am glad that Will Folks has drawn attn. to this. If more people spoke out about addiction, maybe just maybe, SC could offer better treatment. Rehabilitation not incarceration.

Yeah, but as it stands, this is a story by Will Folks about Will Folks, attributing quoting and writing about the “to-from” between the campaigns, provided by…Will Folks, and questioning him on his response.

Kudos to anyone who gets over the vicious habit of drug addiction, but as to this story, just keep in mind that if I ever wrote my own autobiography or version of events that (like above) that let’s face it may or may not have happened. “You betch’a” I’d come out smelling like a rose.

Also, did we ever get a definition of a “shady” pention fund deal as defined by the author, by Martin, by the voters…

Let’s see. I’ve been arrested twice. I had a shoplifting habit. I broke into someone’s house and stole everything I could haul to the pawn shop. I stole money from my parent’s wallets. I stole crabs from other people’s crab traps. But that was in my “youth.” I don’t do that shit any more. I don’t even think of doing that shit any more. But I’m surrounded by people — politicians, particularly — who spend their lives cheating and stealing from others — the public, mostly — doing this.

So Will Folks was born into sin, committed acts harmful to himself and society, changed his behavior, and moved on. And has now written about it. A confession!

The most refreshing and joyful thing I’ve read today!

Some of God’s words on this behavior:

Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Where’sWaldo is right. Stealing crabs from traps is very often stealing from a person whose livelihood that is. Or whose dinner that is. It is despicable behavior in the lowcountry. It is like shoplifting in a jewelery store. I am ashamed I did it. I am away from that selfish behavior now and sleep at night with a clean conscience.

I think S.C. politics is just as lowly as Folks point out, but unfortunately it is not just because of awful politicains which exist while he is the only do-gooder lonely fighting for a worthy cause – it is for all sorts of stuff he routinely delves into. The above story is likely a perfect example.

Tip one in succesful lying. Don’t start out explaning how honest you are (nobody falls for that anymore), go with a real heart felt story about how contrite you are for how all your lies in the past and how its tough to live with but you fight everday to never do that again. “Now, let’s get back to this bridge in San Fran I want to cell you.”

The lies are laced with the truth.

Embarrassing details? I don’t find anything embarrassing about what Will went through. In March of 1973, I woke up at SC State Hospital on Bull Street with an IV in my arm and a catheter being yanked out of my pecker. Got beat up by the guards, held down, injected with Seconal, fitted for a straight jacket, and tossed in a padded cell.

Ate powdered eggs, drank powdered milk, escaped, returned, beat the shit out of the guard who beat me, repeatedly insulted the doofus staff, disrupted group meetings, and generally made a nuisance of myself.

I was let out after 6 weeks on the condition that I start seeing a shrink…Dr. Ian Gale. You may remember him…of cat burglar fame. A lot of good that did. He was crazier than I was.

If this were a game of one-upmanship I think I got you beat, Will.

Keep up the good work!

Great story. Shows to go you that everyone is somewhat fucked up, including politicians. Larry Martin probably masturbates. Nikki Haley sucks Will Folks’ cock. Thad Viers fucks and then harasses his girlfriend. Somebody-or-other writes pornography about giving blow-jobs on trains in Germany when she’s not teaching Sunday School. Glenn McConnell wears women’s clothes and has sex with other gay men. Larry Craig picks up men in airport bathrooms. Richard Eckstrom threatens his girlfriend and then tries to marry her. Eliot Spitzer sends hookers from New York to fancy Washington DC hotels where he bangs them. Bill Clinton gets blowjobs sitting in the Oval Office at night.

I’m just glad I’m clean.

This is what makes me sick of the politics of these days. I witnessed a fit of historic proportions back in 1993 from one of the up and coming darlings of the Republican party at a tennis tournament in Columbia. He was 18 years old and was playing a foreign exchange student that was living with us for the year named Jon Henkie. Little did he know that Jon was the German youth champion and he commenced to spank this guy all over the court to the tune of 6-0, 6-1. All through the match he would make John McEnroe look like a quiet guy by comparison with all the bitching and whining and protesting. You could tell this guy had been brought up in a life of privilege and had never been taught the art of sportsmanship. I tell this story to say this….we all do stupid stuff when we are young and yes most of us experimented with stuff we should have left alone. Does that make me any less of a citizen now 35 years later? I think not. It is called maturing. Some do it sooner some do it later. This kid I am talking about is running for the Senate seat in my district. I will vote for him. Not because of what I witnessed back in 93 but because of the things he has done in public service to the county.

Now with regard to Will…..there is still no hope for you dude. :)

Mr. Folks,
I am a citizen of Pickens County and PROUDLY call Senator Martin my senator.
I have read the articles that you have posted about Senator Martin and I have a couple of questions for you.

You and Mr. Rice have repeatedly blasted Senator Martin on his spending and on this pension issue.
There was exactly a 700.00 difference between what Senator Martin spent and what Rice spent during the term that Rice was in the House so who is Rice to cast stones?
Secondly, the SAME pension plan was IN EFFECT AT THE TIME RICE WAS IN THE HOUSE. IF he was so against it, why didn’t he try to stop it when he was IN the legislature?? Why wait until NOW to speak up?
I have had personal experience dealing with Senator Martin on numerous occasions and I will tell you that he honestly cares about his constituents and has ALWAYS had an ear to listen and if it is within his power to help HE WILL.
This is a far cry from a lot of the jerks in Columbia, including YOUR MAN RICE when he was in the house, who act like you should feel honored that they grant you an audience.
That ad is a load of political horse crap but what do I expect when Rice is being endorsed by the former spokesperson for the biggest fraud South Carolina ever had for governor, namely Marshal Mark SanFRAUD.
