COMPOSITE POLL MORE FAVORABLE TO SOUTH CAROLINA
Despite a humiliating loss to No. 2 Florida in “The Swamp” last weekend, the University of South Carolina football team only dropped six spots in this week’s Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings.
Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks (6-2, 4-2 SEC) fell from No. 7 to No. 13 in the composite rankings – a less precipitous plunge than the one they experienced in the AP Top 25 and USA Today/ Coaches’ poll (USC fell eight spots in those rankings, from No. 9 to No. 17 and No. 8 to No. 16, respectively).
Thirteen, sixteen, seventeen … all three of those spots are probably higher than the Gamecocks deserve given the way they’ve been playing of late. After spotting the Gators a 21-6 halftime lead (thanks to three costly fumbles), Spurrier’s team simply gave up in the second half in Gainesville. Frankly we were amazed that South Carolina – which was ranked as high as No. 3 earlier this year – remained in the top twenty after such a performance, in any poll.
Still, Gamecock fans will take it … and pull for their team to duplicate the same level of intensity it showed two weeks ago during a 35-7 evisceration of then-No. 5 Georgia.
What will the rest of the season hold for the Gamecocks? If they play the way they did against Florida, not much. If they play the way they did against Georgia, they could equal last year’s history-making 11-win season – possibly improving on their best-ever No. 9 finish a year ago.
While South Carolina’s next three opponents are unranked, there will be plenty of carnage to come for the teams ranked ahead of them in the BCS – which means there will be plenty of opportunities to move up in the rankings.
Next weekend No. 1 Alabama plays No. 11 Mississippi State, No. 2 Florida plays No. 10 Georgia, No. 3 Kansas State plays No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 5 Notre Dame plays No. 8 Oklahoma. The following week top-ranked Alabama plays No. 6 LSU while No. 4 Oregon plays No. 9 Southern Cal.

Hahahahahahaha, FITS…
All that ballyhooing and caterwalling yesterday, only to get lit up by the BCS…Oh, what a Whimper….
And what has to KILL you…you know it’s right….
Ranked ahead of Clemson. Nice.
FITS, maybe you do not know it or want to know it but the USC Gamecocks have one of the nations’ toughest schedules, if not the toughest. In the SEC, it’s alot different than playing VT, BC, GT, WF, MD, VA, Miami, UNC, Duke, and Fl St on a weekly basis. Granted, the Cocks basically beat themselves quickly at Fla but it’s should not be too embarrassing to lose to the nations’ top rated teams (LSU/Fla) back to back on their home fields.
So what? If they’re that good, then win against those tough teams.
The other polls make more sense. They have Clemson ranked higher. I don’t know why you guys are 6-2 and are still ranked that high.
Capitol One Bowl or Outback Bowl here we come!!! We could have been 6-6 and played in these bowls.
Is this your first rodeeo…or are you just a Dumb@$$???
I hear you like it bareback.
“toughest schedules”???
LMAO
Wofford is on the schedule only because Spurrier didn’t want to be embarrased by a loss to Dutch Fork High School.
Yeah, but it’s Wofford between the BEST teams in America (see SEC)…
Clemson plays 11 Woffords (or worse) a year…then SC embarrasses you in Nov.
SC should NEVER apologize for its schedule…It deserves a lower level program….
But I can see why SC should apologize for playing Clemson every year…you are the Easy-ACC…
So you are saying South Carolina is bad….Clemson is just worse.
only an idiot is saying USC doesnt have a tough schedule, so this dingleberry is only trying to get a rise
13th in BCS means nothing. If you aren’t in top five, it means nothing.
Carolina has one goal left and that is beat Clemson for 4th straight year. That is important to fans.
The Cocks were overrated after beating UGA,but can still make the fans happy by whipping Tigers.
The “BEST teams in America”:
Vanderbilt (should have been a loss had the referree done his job)
Kentucky
Missouri!!
Then Genius Spurrier throws in razzle dazzle programs like
EAST Carolina
UAB School of Cosmetology
And you get the point an 11 victory season is meaningless to all but the legion of inbred retards that fill Williams Brice stadium season after pitiful season.
It’s no wonder that when the thugs and convicts get to playing the one or two good teams in the SEC they folds like a house of cards and complain of “hip bruises” and other assorted soft tissue nonsense.
School of cosmetology. Lol nice. Don’t forget about no defense Clemson who gets asks blasted by a world record 77 points.
“Vandy supposed to be a loss if the refs did thier jobs”? so you are 100% sure that even if the interfernce were to be called that Vandy still would have gotten the hail mary play after that? I mean its a sure thing right according to you? It isnt like that play was in the endzone and cost the game. get over it. As to the rest of that BS garbage you wrote, USC has already played 3 top 10 teams and Clemson will be a top 15 team. Who has Clemsux played? Anyone? No, not even a JV team is on that schedule until they play(and lose to yet again) USC. To even say USC hasnt played some of the best teams is just an idiot statement. Only 1 or 2 good teams in the SEC? to compare apples to apples you have to count down to the 7th best team in the SEC to get to the quality of the best in the ACC’s weak ass conference. I mean Duke really is winning it right now. I think that says enough. go whine a be a hter all you want to but USC and the SEC is WAY better than Clemsux and the ACC
From Peacock to feather duster in just 4 quarters. Me oh my!
