ILLEGAL CONTRIBUTIONS? RUH-ROH …
Remember S.C. Rep. Ted Vick?
He’s the “family values” candidate who was supposed to be a shoo-in for his party’s nomination in the newly drawn South Carolina seventh congressional district (which is tailor made for a “moderate” Democrat). Of course those dreams went up in smoke when Vick was arrested for speeding and drunk driving after leaving a bar in Columbia, S.C.’ s college district.
Not only that, Vick was busted for illegally possessing a firearm – and at the time of his arrest was in the company of a young woman not named Mrs. Vick.
Anyway, faced with the trifecta of booze, broads and bullets … Vick dropped out of the congressional race, but is still seeking reelection to his seat in the S.C. House of Representatives. Ordinarily we wouldn’t care whether Vick won or lost that race (Democrats and Republicans are ideologically indistinguishable in South Carolina – especially in rural regions of the state). However Vick’s opponent, Richie Yow, is reportedly our kind of candidate.
A native of Cheraw, S.C., Yow is a civil engineering instructor who served for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. Oh and he’s said to be an actual “family values” candidate – as opposed to one who pretends for the television cameras.
We don’t care about that last point, obviously – our only concern is whether Yow will be an effective advocate for taxpayers. And on that score he’s been vouched for by some pretty solid fiscal conservatives – including a pair of U.S. Congressmen whose opinions (and records) we greatly respect.
Meanwhile Vick can’t seem to stay out of trouble.
Not long after his arrest, the lawmaker transferred more than $36,000 from his now-defunct congressional campaign account to his state legislative account. That’s legal – so long as Vick received permission from his donors. What isn’t legal? The $9,500 worth of campaign contributions that Vick has accepted (from ten different donors) in excess of the $1,000 state limit.
Ruh-roh, right?
There are plenty of state legislative races this November in which voters have absolutely no choice. And there are plenty more races in which the only choice is between a pair of fiscal liberals. In this race, however, it would appear as though we have an actual “God’s honest” difference … which bowls us over.
Let’s hope voters in this Pee Dee district are able to pick up on the difference … and choose accordingly.

When the FBI is done with all of it’s other high level investigations that have been leaked tomfits only….will this also be on the list?
jeffy, Sic Willie has been talking to his mirror again.
He’s a democrat. Nothing will happen.
Ain’t it GREAT?
YOU BETCHA!
YOU BETCHA!
“Teddy Boo-Boo” needs his own reality TV show. Commercials are being run as we speak on You Tube. Just type in Ted Vick and see the “nice commercial”. Looks more like Otis Campbell!!!!
Two Americas: Republicans are prosecuted…democrats go scot free…
I call BS T. Conservatives are persecuted, Some others are prosecuted and the people in power go free.
Frank Pytel :)
This highlights the foolishness not only of Will Folks, but also of all of small minded jealous busybodies here who chatter about nothing. Generally two kinds of power, formal and informal. If you have power, if you are connected to people in power, if you are about to obtain power, you have some slight degree of protection. when the mantle of power leaves you you are as vulnerable as nuts flapping in a sandstorm. This appears to be vick’s problem at the moment, though Vick has lost quite a bit of formal authority, his informal power through close connections means he is still connected to power – Alan Wilson as well as the person Alan hired to be his public integrity insulation barrier- Barry Bernstein. Vick is out of the congressional race, he may win or lose his house seat, but that is the end of what will happen to him. And then Folks and you idiots will move on the next rumor, and set about to dismantle the happiness of those that screw up, with antlike efficiency.
John Edwards, Charlie Rangel, Sandy Burglar, Eric Holder, Bill Clinton…
As opposed to: Ken Ard, Scooter Libby, Thomas Ravenel, Thad Viers….
“R”s lose their power and position…democrats get away with it over and over…
Day-um son – you don’t know Yow is gonna finish third in a three-way race.
Vick is only worried about the petition candidate who was tossed off the Dimmycrat primary ballot – some glad-handing chamber o’ commerce type I hear. You know, somebody that both Will Folks and his split personality Big T would call a liberal…
One more thing about Vick having had a primary opponent – it meant he could raise 2000.00 from each donor instead of just 1000.00. OOOOPS – Will, that what chu git for regurgitating Chad Connelly’s “deep” thoughts on the matter… The dumbass things that Chad Connelly and Will Folks do and say because they never, ever, ever talk to a (real) lawyer. Hint – Hall and Bowers … Not … Real … Lawyers…
Vick is rolling like a big dog. He’s got the side dish action going, funds his party with sheeple money and has an incumbent tag to go along with his re-election hopes.
If I’m Richie Yow and I want to win I make every appearance/speaking engagment with a poster board picture of Vick’s young lover on easel next to my podium and tattoo “GOP” on my forehead(even if it’s a fake one).
If he does those two things he’ll win in a landslide.
See, I can do Donehue’s job.
edit: “an easel”
Isn’t Vick the guy in the picture with the good looking wife and a church in the background? And then he got caught driving around with a college girl he was giving a ride home?
I wouldn’t exactly call her good looking but I here she may be looking soon. I think the man of the house is no longer the man of the house. Rumor is that he is hold up in a trailer out in the county, gettin’ back to his core values!!
No, no, no. His wife is a sex pot. Take off those glasses, she’s got that curly hair… sex pistol. She should get rid of this jerk and find herself a man who’ll treat her good.
I hope even more truths come out about Slick-Vick!
Cheese ball. His campaign managers are Jay Hodge and Safronia Finch. Very unsavory individuals, indeed.
So what you’re saying is that these ten donors gave in excess of $1000 when they were contributing to his congressional campaign which wasn’t subject to the $1000 limit? And then he later transferred the funds?
You’re not being very clear for someone who is practising jouralism.
Yeah, what kind of checkbook reporting is this? Even if the contributions weren’t for the Congressional campaign, 10 contributions would work out to only $950 per.
$9,500 from 10 different donors in excess of the $1,000 per donor limit? Wouldn’t that have to be more than $10,000 from those donors???
Slick Vick
and this behavior is differnt then yours Fits?
These red necks with their hair dyed and festooned with tattoos are just trying too hard and they still wind up tacky and trashy. Vick is no different than Viers. Democrat is no different than Republican. UU GG LL Y, Ted ain’t got no alibi, he’s UGLY, yeah yeah yeah, he’s UGLY. How much you figure he had to pay the “coed”?
Wait a minute, I gave Mr. Vick $ for his congressional campaign, which he never returned after he quit; however, he never sought my permission to transfer these funds to his state campaign. For that matter, he has made no contact at all, not even to say he is sorry for violating our misplaced trust.
Does state law say he must either return funds or request permission to transfer them?
Lawd, ya’ll know whats? Ever time I gits a chance to git on one of these compooters at the Maggie Valley librarie and cheks up on my old county I sees sumptin else is goin on. Big Bubba, the purveyour of Truth, voting out the trash and the American Way.
I understand that Rep. Vick has more going on than just his contributions. Think Teddy has been doin’ some more sparkin’ lately.
Just watch Richie Yow’s videos on Youtube, particularly his “interview with pastors.” If you can stomach that evangelical nonsense, more power to you. You can pray all you want and fight for religious freedom, but none of that will help reduce the high unemployment in Chesterfield County.
Yow means well, but has no substance. He just recycles GOP and Tea Party talking points along with WAY too many Biblical references. Newsflash: it’s the economy, stupid! Not a war on religion!
Sooooooo, Teddy is only guilty of slightly speeding? My big ol’ butt. Has he been hunting with Allen Wilson again? If he is not guilty of DWI/DUI or whatever you want to call it, then everyone that has been arrested for the same should be forgiven. Where is MADD when you need them.
So Vick only has one opponent in this race? What about Powell, the petition candidate? He’s a stand-up person and has a long record of serving our community well and getting things done. He understands what our county needs to create jobs and certainly won’t be a rubber stamp for either political party.
Yow is really nice guy and everything and would probably do a good job, but he’s got Glenn Gulledge as his campaign manager. It’s too late now, but Richie probably should have found another manager. Gulledge is a little too radical for these folks around C’field. Yea he’s patriotic and everything and that’s good. But this is all about politics and so forth – and the economy is the main issue around here – not religion.
I cannot imagine the kind of arrogance of Ted Vick! To tell be quoted in The Link, saying, this issue has been brought up to ruin his good name and reputation!
What? Let’s think about this…Busted speeding, 21 year old in the truck he had been drinking with at several bars, DUI and carried a hand gun in the POLICE STATION!
You ruined you reputation YOURSELF! You do not need any help.
Plus, you are still up to the same behavior!
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that live in glass houses……yes, he used horrible judgement – he drank alcohol and got behind the wheel of a car. And he failed to renew the license on his gun. And for this, many of you would have him hung for his misdeeds. I skimmed this spew of negativity and hatred on this site from those of you who most assuredly always see the glass as half empty and I saw little mention of his love of God and his service to our country. I may not know him like some of you, but he is someone I have always been proud of. We all make mistakes. He has asked for forgiveness. Move on!
Not a chance, if anything, elected officials should be held to a higher standard! If he makes these poor choices in his personal life, how are we to have faith that he is making the best choices for us while representing our interests in Columbia? I think his actions speak for themselves and shame on you for speaking of his love for God!!
Wow. You conveniently forgot to mention the 21 year-old female in his car at the time of the arrest. Ted Vick has accomplished next to nothing during his time in the State House. That alone is enough to elect a fresh face to represent us. Add on the DUI charges, the unregistered gun and the incident with Miss USC Student and I see absolutely no reason to vote for him. He’s a self-absorbed joke of a person who thinks he’s above Chesterfield County.
Do you think Phil Powell or Richie Yow would ever be involved in an incident like that? Absolutely not–both of them are men of high character. Time for Vick to go.
“His love of God and his service to our country”. WOW. You must joking. He has not served his country. He has picked up an easy paycheck month after month for staying state side. When he picks up a weapopn and heads overseas to fight an enemy, you can say he has served his country! Also, if loved God, he would obey the moral code. He has not done that iehter.
True everyone makes mistakes. Most of us learn from them. I do not think he has learned.
EN:
All of what you say is very noble, but leaders lead by example, Mr. Vick should have stepped down for a term, got his life back together and then if he felt compelled to run again, do so.
He has sent the wrong message by dropping out of one race, but not the other. He has also got to clean up his act.. word here in Columbia is that he is running with some very questionable characters and making some very unsavory decisions which is another reason he has gotten beaten up in the press.
If he were to have had the one incident of bar hopping, escorting the young lady, and the hand gun matter, people probably would have been more likely to forgive him and his oversight. But, more has come to the surface after this incident and when you look at the matter as a whole, it appears he has exercised some poor judgement and/or taken some very lame advice.
So, your sermon falls on deaf ears. I for one cannot “move on” without he himself moving on.
Everyone that responded to EN has great insight and good judgement of character. There is only one thought missing. Is Ted still driving or has he surrendered his license? If the answer is no, then why not??????? If he does not surrender his license, then everyone that has lost their due to DWI/DUI, should get theirs back. Was he drunk? I am not making a call on this, just go to YOU TUBE and type in TED VICK. Enough said.
The only weapon that Good ole Teddy has picked up is a shotgun at a free dove hunt that someone was putting on and he got invited. He for sure didn’t help pay for it.
Can anyone tell me why ol’ Teddy is still driving??
Refusing a Breathalyzer and Other Rights
The arresting officer is tasked with a list of rights you must be informed of throughout your DUI arrest that spin-off from the implied consent law.
The officer legally must inform you that:
You have the right to refuse a breathalyzer or other test.
Your driver’s license will automatically be suspended for six months, effective immediately, if you refuse to provide breath, blood or urine samples. (The arresting officer must also issue a notice of suspension to you, marking the effective suspension date as the alleged violation date.)
A refusal to take a breathalzyer, etc. may be used against him or her in court.
You can request an administrative hearing within 30 days of your arrest, known as an “implied consent” hearing.
Will someone please post the name of the person over
local chapter of MADD in Chesterfield County? I want to know why Teddy is still driving. I am concerned that my family may be killed or severely injured when he decides to “party hardy” again. I NEED TO TALK WITH SOMEONE!!!!! Very shocked that he was voted back in!!!!!!!!
not to worry, he has the local police and sheriff in his back pocket. he will get the same pass that the detective who killed himself got from both of our reliable law enforcement agencies. Something they both should be proud of and own up to but not gonna happen in this county!!
If he is one that “takes the high road” like his mom says.. why then did he stoop to so far down in the abyss and give food and rides to voters.. doesn’t sound like the “high road” to me, sounds like fraud. Luring someone to vote for you by giving them something of material value? Questionable, especially for an honest politician.
