I think Lindy is right on this one. Paul, Demint, Davis, (stooges always come in threes) actually know better but are willing to sacrifice reason for the sake of hyper-partisanism. The UN and foreign aid pay dividends in the form of intel and communications.
Zimmermann note anyone?

Intel & communications? That’s your justification for borrowing money from China(or printing it up) and giving it to other countries while our own homeless walk the streets?(and I’m not for giving money to ANYONE, trust me)

Seriously, this issue has nothing to do with partisanship. This issue is one of basic morality. It is immoral to take money from one group of people and give it to another. It’s that simple.

Even if you can’t accept that axiom you can go further and see that 90% of the “foreign aid” sent over to these countries ends up in the hands of their upper economic classes anyway and buys us little influence while putting our country further in debt.

What did 40 years of financial aid to Mubarak get us? What did foreign aid to the Taliban get us?(yes, we funded them) We funded Al Qaeda for a period of time for christ sakes. What about our aid to Saudi Arabia? Don’t forget OBD, for every slimeball administration or group we fund there’s an “opponent” to them that hates us for doing it.

Yea, call me an isolationist-FINE! I want to leave all the other countries alone and have them leave us alone while we repair ourselves. Call me “crazy”.

I bet you would feel just fine about using Chinese money to build the F-35. After all Demint and Davis love them some Chi-Com money for that. It’s only deficit spending if its in the other guys district..

“I bet you would feel just fine about using Chinese money to build the F-35.”

Bullshit, I hate it all. I don’t believe in stealing from future generations to fund the dreams of the current ones. It’s not just chicom money, its our money which either has to be paid back to the chicom’s or destroyed to avoid repaying it.

Either way it fucks the future generations.

Preach on Brother ?, preach on. You’re dead on the mark about this. I also feel we need to go back and heed our first president’s advice he gave in his final speech as president. We need to look inward for awhile and forget about taking care of the rest of the world. We should solve our own problems first before we even begin to think about helping others solve theirs.

Graham doesn’t give a shit about a Republican-controlled Congress. He could be the only Republican there and he’d be happy just as long as the defense budget is still going up. In fact, Graham would probably feel privileged to be the “Token Republican” in that scenario.

I hope Democrats have a good candidate lined up for the 2014 US Senate race, in case a extremist nut defeats Graham in the primary. If Graham gets past the primary, he is a shoo-in.

I remember a few Tea Party people telling me back in 2010 how they were going to take down Graham in 2014. I told them they were full of crap. Graham has done plenty of things that should have pissed off Republicans. Support for cap-and-trade, “Grahamnesty,” rampant spending… If that wasn’t enough for them to give him the boot last time, then some “awakened” subset of the Republican party that has already begun to fade won’t do jack shit about the guy.

I still say Graham will win reelection, and easily at that. Davis or some random Democrat won’t change that.

Unfortunately, you’re exactly right. That fact helps him in his primary too, since SC allows open primaries. I would hope neither would support Graham, but that’s just not realistic.

With Nikki potentially at the top of the ticket, 2014 could be the SC Dem’s best year since 1998. If Graham lost to a no name Tea partier, a well funded moderate Dem could be competitive.

The Indiana senate race this year is an example to use. The R incumbent Lugar was a sure bet, until he lost to a tea partier in the primary. Now the Democrat is even money to win it.

Dear Senator Graham,

Considering that from all media reports that you continue to stay informed about most of what is going on with our foreign policy, it is rather telling that you have not got in the face oif Hillary Clinton for declaring “We Came…We Saw….and He DIED …!!”. We feel certain that you have read the book “The ART of War”. We just wonder if you know how to USE it..?

It is most certain that everyone here realizes that you have more than war issues on your plate as Senator. We highly suggest that if YOU have any aspirations of being victorious in your next campaign cycle, that you start thumping Ol’ Tom Davis about his SLAVERY to foreign OIL and the condition of our Tank Infrastructure and idle abilities sitting in North Charleston…!?! What has Tom Davis done to get in the face of Bobby Harrell and CSX and Norfolk Southern and Hess and Mayor Summey and The BEACH Company to get our North Area Industrial corridor humming…!?!

SENATOR,…Ol’ Tommy has a big black eye with respect to where his TRASH is trucked too in JASPER County…!!!

SENATOR…….how does the Military use gas plasma-fication to protect ARAB SOIL and ground water better than Tim Scott and Tom Davis….!!!??

Senator Graham…….we are FED UP. Do you WANT to WIN a WAR..??

Few facts FITS left out.

* Graham didn’t defend 3 Democrats, he defended Joe Manchin from West Virginia who is considered the GOPs favorite DEM in the Senate. Manchin is 30 points up over his GOP opponent. Noted fiscal hawk GOP Senator Tom Coburn has actually sent money to Manchin’s campaign.

* The Rand Paul amendment was also opposed by AIPAC because it could have cut off United States aid to Israel. Guess you don’t care if we hang one of our closest allies out to dry. Who cares if Iran continues working on building a nuke? Not our problem right? Yeah, you, Tom Davis, Ron Paul and Rand keep believing that crap.

America first! PERIOD.

They have nukes and our weapons and can defend themselves fine. The single handedly took on most their Arab neighbors in the 6 day war and could do it again if they had too.

If Lindsey Graham, the may who put forward the repeal of Glass Seagal, and was one of the leaders in the Clinton Impeachment fight, is a RINO, I shudder to think of the severity of views required for someone to be a Republican now.

Ahh the GOP, a party with space for people who don’t understand that the concept of ‘legitimate rape’ is offensive in and of itself, but who can’t accept someone who occasionally… compromises.

One never stops to think that the 9% is money we don’t have unless we print it or borrow it(and printing it is just a different form of borrowing it anyway).

Printing money for which you have no way accounting for is called counterfiting.

Writing bad checks would be called kiting or bouncing a check. When the feds or states do it its called “Stimulus”.

Well…it’s dicey territory because they aren’t denying they are doing it…they just don’t make it clear(refuse to track it accurately) in detail how much.

In check kiting/bouncing you’re pretending you have the money or making a promise you can’t keep. In this case they are admitting they don’t have the money but no one gives a shit(for now).

Anyway, we are probably both splitting hairs…it was pointed out to me the other day they aren’t “printing money” technically which is true(they are just adding zeros to digits in computers)…I just use that terminology because it’s easier to understand than trying to explain to everyone the various methods by which they expand the monetary base(inflation) and why the price increases haven’t hit full on yet(much of it going to bank reserves, hence no money multiplier).

Hell, most people don’t even distinguish between inflation and price increases.

See how easy it is to get bogged down in minutia?

Hey TATA NANO

You seem to be missing the train here. 9% is not the issue. You either want the government to spend more or less. No senseless, unfortunately no one wants the exact same amount of spending. I wish there were. It would be an improvement.

Further TATA NANO there are those of us that know how to add.

Take some simple numbers. 9% plust 14% interest on the debt is 23%. 23% is cutting the budget a significant number. How about all the other freebies. Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Unemployment. the budget is not out of control. Its fracking ludicrous. Every Senator, Assembly “Person” or whatever you want to call them, from the top down, is a treasonous bastard.

Yes Sensless, Treason. Look up the word. Betraying ones country. How many trillions of dollars has the US flooded into afganistan, iran, iraq, pakistan and all the other stanastans in the world. Can you possibly betray the citizenry any more than unlawfully stealing their money from them and giving it to the enemy.

Ever here of a pareto chart? Graph expenditures from high to low. Work on the highs first. Those are:

The military, Social security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Everything else combined is a drop in the bucket.

Hey, when you need to cut spending you cut IT ALL.

It’s a significant number that deserves attention aside from the moral implications of spending money you don’t have on other nations and their citizens.

What does TEA Party mean you?

What does printing 40 billion dollars a month over and above any budget process for 20 years mean to you?

I rest my case

Democrats and Republicans scoff and loathe a TEA Party based on what? It matters not what a Lindsey or an Obama or a TEA Party does anymore. The basic fact remains that the Federal Reserve just told us they were going to print 40 billion dollars a month for infinity and not one Democrat raised their voice in opposition, dittos for the TEA Party already in DC and the GOP as a whole.

The revolution is over. Americans have rolled over on themselves, and the have no clue what I am talking about. Foreign aid is but a puddle compared to the ocean of money that 40 billion a month means. Savvy?

agreed, but you still have to discuss the details in the hopes it doesn’t all bounce of their thick skulls

You never know what switch might make the lightbulb come on.

Smirks, Graham was one of my students at USC duirng the late 70’s during mt short stay there. He worried about his undergraduate performance but he excelled in law school. He told me “law rolled of his lips like water over a duck’s ass.” Lost his mom & dad at an early age and looked after his younger sister while attending USC. He’s law smart, has a gift of gab, knows how to politic with both parties and he’s a RINO, no doubt. He spent a lawyer tour in USAF and then reserved it to achieve his full colonel rank. He, like me, is pro-defense. The military is what made this great nation what it was a few years ago. If, not for the military you would not be doing this FITS shit unless you did it in German or Nipponese. You are free and blesseds by those who came and gave there all. Enjoy it. It will take a good conservative, like Tom Davis, to give Graham any competition. He’s monied by the big monied boys and that counts.

I will grant you that the military has protected us in bygone years. WWII demanded our military to keep us free. In more recent conflicts, not so much. Korea was questionable but I feel it got good results because the people of S. Korea are able to live a relatively free, though heavily guarded existence.

Vietnam was a sick joke foisted off on the citizens of this country, and most of all, on the brave men and women who died, were maimed, and dismembered there. We kept that atrocity going for over a decade and it accomplished absolutely NOTHING good. We kept hearing the Domino Theory that if we didn’t stop the Communists there, before long they would take Japan, Australia and lots of other places to include the United States. Guess what? It didn’t happen. People argued that it was our humanitarian duty to the people of South Vietnam to protect them. When the travesty finally ended, they were overrun and brutalized, anyway. It was a waste and it did nothing to preserve our freedom. This is in no way a disparagement of the brave men and women who sacrificed much or all there.

Recent wars in the Middle East have likewise done nothing to protect our freedom. They have just served to increase ill-will toward the US and to cost the lives and health of thousands of good men and women, as well as money we didn’t have to piss away in those places. I hope you don’t believe that it has taken ten years to get Bin Laden. Bush and Obama and scum like Graham have orare feeding the military industrial complex and reaping huge rewards, either politically, financially, or both. While many of the good men and women fighting these wars have the best and most noble of intentions, they are not fighting for our freedom. They are voluntary pawns in a game played by people like Graham, who have never and will never be in harm’s way.

To continue to spend money on giveaways to countries who would just as soon see us dead, and to continue to piss money away on a military which will never be allowed to win those wars is to follow the path to ruin that the Soviets did back in the 80’s and 90’s. We need to focus more on home and OUR needs and less on nation-building and spending all we have on more military crap.

Coolhand,
Graham has overcome tremendous obstacles and personal tragedy to get where he is today.

Having said that, his political views involving “national defense” would IMHO be an anathema to the likes of Generals and POTUSs George Washington and Dwight Eisenhower.

“An overwhelming majority want all aid cut off to foreign nations”

Not exactly. I think you will find that most foreign aid is not in the form of paper money but in the form of US products. Check out, for example, all the construction equipment going out of ports like Charleston bought with foreign aid dollars. See if those US manufacturers want foreign aid to stop.

That’s what I was about to reply. A wholesale salesman for US products in South America explained that to me long ago. The “foreign aid” money goes in US big-business pockets.

Grew up on a farm out in the middle of no where. Played with the farm animals as a kid. Never has had a girlfriend in his life. Never married. Has no children.

He is a closet homosexual and a habitual master baiter.

“What did 40 years of financial aid to Mubarak get us?”

Bribing Egypt (Sadat preceded Mubarak) got them off the Soviet teat in the Cold War and kept them from fucking much with Israel.

US Christians are obligated to sacrifice and even die for Tel Aviv, and that means deconflicting the neighbours. God will send us to Heaven for it. Be happy. (/sarcasm)

“What did foreign aid to the Taliban get us?(yes, we funded them) We funded Al Qaeda for a period of time for christ sakes.”

Cold War cooperation against the Soviets, far more important than all the blood and treasure we lost in blowback.

“What about our aid to Saudi Arabia? Don’t forget OBD,”

Stable oil prices, which is worth genocide to maintain. OBL was PO’d at our DEFENSE of KSA, by the way. Didn’t care for Infidels protecting the Kingdom during Desert Shield/Storm.

We must have wealth. That’s worth slaughter to keep (but doesn’t justify wasteful war or wasteful procurement which accomplish nothing).

Without responding at length(which is unecessary), obviously not everyone agree with your MO or summation-that being said, at least you take the time to make an intellectual argument, kudos to you.

My reference to “OBD” was not a mistaken OBL for context btw, it was referring to “old biker dude”.
